The Spirit Friendship System is a new feature introduced in the Season of Migration, designed to provide more flexibility in how you spend your season candles, while also allowing you to deepen your connection with the spirits.

Previously, obtaining an item at the top of a spirit tree required spending candles and obtaining every preceding item, even ones you may not want. This new system now offers three different ways to progress through the Spirit Friendship Menu:

• Traditional Unlocking: Spend candles to unlock items in order.
  • Items exclusive to the Season Pass do not progress friendship.
• Friendship Path: Grow your friendship by inviting the spirit to accompany you on your adventures through Spirit Companion. With season guides, completing quests increases friendship. 
  • For more information on Spirit Companion, please refer to the next section.
• A combination of both: Use candles and spend time with the spirit to build friendship and unlock items.

You can access a spirit’s Friendship Menu by interacting with the spirit in the realms or through the season’s constellation via the Constellation Table in Home or Aviary Village.

Your friendship with the spirit is represented by the meter on the left side of their menu. As you collect more of the spirit's items and/or spend more time with them, the meter will fill. Increasing your friendship will allow you to unlock more tiers and options within their menu.

• To access the 4th friendship tier, the spirit will ask you to journey to their favorite place for a special friendship moment. For more information, please refer to the How do I access the 4th friendship tier? section below.

How can I grow my friendship using Spirit Companion?

The Spirit Companion feature allows you to gain friendship with a spirit by inviting them to accompany you on your adventure. 

• You can take only one spirit per day on an adventure.
• You can invite the spirit at any time, but only up until 11:29 PM Pacific time (31 minutes before the daily reset at 00:00 PDT/PST). This is to account for the time spent with the spirit to grow your friendship. After this time, you cannot invite the spirit to join you until after reset.

To invite the spirit, click on the Spirit Companion button in their menu, and you will receive a prompt to confirm this action.

From here, the spirit will follow you as you adventure through the realms. As you both adventure together, the spirit will walk or sometimes even turn into an orb to catch up. Once you are in an open area and the spirit is by your side, they will turn back into their original form. 

• There are some areas in Sky where the spirit cannot follow you. Once you leave these areas, the spirit will reappear at your side.

After spending 30 minutes with the spirit, they will let you know that they are ready to leave. A waypoint will also appear on them to notify you.

To say goodbye and grow your friendship, click on the friendship icon in the spirit’s menu and you will be asked if you would like to confirm this action. Once confirmed, the friendship meter will fill, and the spirit will depart.

• You can continue spending time with the spirit even after they are ready to leave, but you will not gain friendship until you officially say goodbye.
• Should you need to step away before 30 minutes has passed, no worries! You will find the spirit waiting for you when you return, and the time spent together will resume without resetting.

Make sure to finish spending time with the spirit and say goodbye before the daily reset at 00:00 PDT/PST. Otherwise, you will not gain friendship from having the spirit join you for that day.

How do I access the 4th friendship tier?

Each spirit has a Spirit Moment, or a friendship moment, which represents a milestone in your connection with the spirit. Completing this spirit moment is required to access the 4th friendship tier.

First, select the locked tier. The spirit will ask you to meet them in a specific location.

Travel to the area and locate the spirit. You can also use your call within the area, which will create a waypoint that will point you to where the spirit is.

Interact with the spirit, and the friendship moment will begin. Once the moment is complete, the 4th tier will be unlocked the next time you interact with the spirit and access their menu.

Note - You also have the option of reliving the spirit moment by selecting its icon in the unlocked tier, but only after 5 days. Once you have relived the moment, you must wait for another 5 days before you can experience it again.
