Message Shrines are special features you can find throughout the world of Sky that allow you to create Message Candles. Message Candles are placed on Message Shrines, and contain a written message that your friends and potentially other players can see.
There are two different types of Message Shrines; Gratitude and Quest. They function in essentially the same way. Their similarities and differences are listed below:
- There are multiple Gratitude Shrines that are always present throughout all the levels.
- Only a single Quest Shrine will appear at a time as a quest, but they can be in many different places.
- While you can only place a single Message Candle at each shrine, you can have multiple Message Candles active at one time.
- Only friends with whom you’ve unlocked chat can see your Message Candles until they have received 3 likes. Then anyone can see them.
- You will receive 1 Heart if one of your Message Candles at a Gratitude Shrine gets enough likes. However, you cannot receive more than 1 Heart in this way every 48 hours.
- You will receive 1 Heart if one of your Message Candles at a Quest Shrine gets enough likes. However, you cannot receive more than 1 Heart in this way every 24 hours.
- All Gratitude Shrine candles are removed after 48 hours.
- All Quest Shrine candles are removed after 24 hours.
- Violating the chat policy prevents the message from appearing until the message has been updated to a version acceptable by the chat policy.
Please note that the number of likes required to earn a Heart from Message Candles and Message Boats will change as needed to help balance the game and prevent exploitation.
Message Boats function in the same way as Gratitude Shrines, with the following exceptions:
- Unlike Message Candles that must be placed at Message Shrines, Message Boats must be placed in water. However, some locations are restricted in order to prevent issues with gameplay.
-
Message Boats are spells that must be obtained from the Spell Shop. For more information, see the “What is the Spell Shop?” FAQ
- You can only have a single message boat in each area. If you place a new boat, it will remove the older ones.
- Message Cranes function the same way as Message Boats. The difference between these two consists only in appearance.
Shared Spaces offer a way to come together with others and express yourself, while having some more fun with props. In a Shared Space you have the ability to place different props or multiples of one type of placeable (depending on item volume) in order to create a cozy space for you and your friends.
Players will see candles around each Shared Space shrine. Similar to candles at Meditation Shrines, these candles represent yours and other players’ Shared Spaces. You can:
Players will see candles around each Shared Space shrine. Similar to candles at Meditation Shrines, these candles represent yours and other players’ Shared Spaces. You can:
- Give your Space a name
- Give “likes” to other players’ spaces; a certain number of “likes” gives a Heart to that Space’s creator
- Temporarily make a Space visible to others around a Shared Space shrine at a given moment
Similar to messages, a Shared Space must receive three “likes” from a player’s friends before it becomes public to non-friended players.
You will receive 1 Heart if one of your Shared Space at a Shrine gets enough likes. However, you cannot receive more than 1 Heart in this way every 4 days.
A message will alert a player that their "like" count on their public Shared Space will be reset if they overwrite and remake that Space.
Shared Memories are a type of spell that will allow players to show a glimpse of their past for others to see. Activating the spell records an avatar’s movement for a brief period of time. Then, once the recording is finished, a special candle appears in the world representing this memory. Friends and other players who find it can tap on it to replay this visual message.
To view someone else’s Shared Memory, just tap on a Shared Memory candle that displays in the area around you. Similar to messages, a Shared Memory must receive three “likes” from a player’s friends before it becomes public to non-friended players.
Shared Memory candles remain in an area for 6 days at the moment and this number may be subject to change in the future. Players can tap the heart icon when viewing someone else’s Shared Memory to “like” it, and after a certain number of “likes” the person who shared the original memory recording will receive a Heart.

How to use it:
- Cast the spell from the potions and spells section of the Expression Menu, then find a spot on dry land to start your recording from (take care to not stand too close to things like Candle locations, meditation circles, or Spirits).
- Select the “record” icon when ready, and then move, dance, fly, or anything else that comes to mind while the spell captures your movement.
-
You’ll have the chance to preview your memory after it’s captured, or try again until you’re satisfied.
When it’s ready to share, simply give it a name and it will be placed in the world for others to see!
